Changing your filter regularly will keep your system running properly. A dirty filter can cause the system to seize up and freeze the coil. Continually trying to run a system with a dirty filter can also do permanent long term damage.
We recommend changing your filter every 3 – 6 months and here are some reasons why;
1. You have wood floors, or indoor pets – dust and dander accumulate
2. You have run your heater all winter
3. You have run your A/C all summer
Keeping an extra filter on hand and marking your calendar to replace the filter is easy and smart. You can find filters on Amazon.com or Home Depot or any local hardware store.
Where is my filter you ask? If your Furnace is in the closet, the filter will be under the furnace (behind a small door) or you may have to take off the whole door to furnace to find it below. If your Furnace is in the attic, there is usually a Return Grill in the hallway that you unlatch to remove the filter. The size of the filter is always on the side of the filter. (example 14x25x1)
