AC tips to prepare for hot weather

Pre-Summer AC Tips:

  1. Replace or Clean Air Filters
Dirty filters reduce airflow and efficiency. Replace or clean filters monthly during peak season.

  2. Check Thermostat Settings
Set your thermostat to 78°F (26°C) when you’re home. Raise it when you’re away to save energy.

  3. Schedule a Professional Tune-Up
Get an HVAC technician to inspect coils, refrigerant levels, electrical components, and overall performance.

  4. Seal Leaks & Insulate
Check windows, doors, and ductwork for air leaks. Proper insulation helps keep the cool air in.

  5. Clear Debris Around Outdoor Unit
Remove leaves, grass, and other debris at least 2 feet around your condenser to allow proper airflow.

  6. Use Ceiling Fans
Fans help circulate air and allow you to raise the thermostat 2–4 degrees without sacrificing comfort.

  7. Keep Blinds Closed During the Day
Block direct sunlight to reduce indoor heat gain.

  8. Don’t Overwork the System
Avoid using ovens or dryers during the hottest parts of the day.

  9. Consider a Smart Thermostat
Save energy by programming cooling schedules and controlling the temperature remotely.

  10. Upgrade if Needed
If your unit is over 10–15 years old, consider a high-efficiency model to cut cooling costs significantly.
