Honorable Air’s Energy-Saving Tip
When you’re not home, especially during work hours or short trips, it’s tempting to turn off the AC completely to save money. However, this can actually backfire.
Here’s why:
Turning the system off allows heat and humidity to build up inside. When you return and turn the AC back on, it must work extra hard — and consume more energy — to bring the temperature back down. This spike in energy use can offset any savings.
What to do instead:
- Raise the thermostat by 7–10°F instead of turning the unit off.
- Use a programmable or smart thermostat to automate temperature changes while you’re away.
- Close curtains or blinds to block out heat from the sun.
- Seal leaks around windows and doors to keep cool air in.
Real savings:
According to the U.S. Department of Energy, adjusting your thermostat 7–10°F for 8 hours a day can save you as much as 10% a year on heating and cooling.
At Honorable Air, we’re committed to keeping your home comfortable and efficient. Need help with a smart thermostat or a tune-up to boost AC performance? We’re just a call away.
